I like reading poetry, and think more people would too if they gave it a chance.
But I know a book or even a magazine full of poems can be overwhelming.
One poem is often enough to think about all day, or all week, or all year.
So in 2016 I started giving out photocopies of one poem that I like every week to passers by outside local libraries.
Some people who took the poem said they had never considered reading poetry before.
Some said they don’t have time to read.
I think that by taking the time to read one poem you can create a new space – a private, mental space separate from your day to day reality, which may be busy, crowded or untidy.
There is always time for one.
